The environmental impacts of vehicles go far beyond air pollution. Just as some counties have the authority to increase vehicle registration fees to help mitigate air pollution impacts from vehicles, AB 2444 (Klehs) would have allowed individual Bay Area counties, by a two-thirds vote of the county supervisors, and the Bay Area Air Quality Management District to each increase fees by up to $5 per vehicle to manage traffic congestion and mitigate coastal pollution from vehicles.
