California’s recently updated flammability standard permits consumer products, including furniture, to be sold in California without flame retardants, but it does not prohibit or ban their use. Flame retardant chemicals have been linked to cancer, reduced IQ, developmental delays, and reproductive problems. This bill provides important information to consumers by requiring manufacturers to include information on furniture labels so that consumers know whether flame retardant chemicals are in the furniture.
