Biomonitoring—the practice of voluntarily testing human blood, urine and breast milk for the presence of synthetic chemicals—gives scientists and doctors more complete and accurate information about chemical exposures and helps determine whether the chemical exposures contribute to illnesses such as breast cancer. SB 1379 (Perata & Ortiz) establishes the California Environmental Contaminant Biomonitoring Program to detect the presence of environmental toxins that are suspected of adversely affecting human health.
