Chemicals policy in the U.S. is broken. Unlike with pesticides and pharmaceuticals, little is known about many of the 80,000 chemicals used in products and manufacturing processes. That’s a main reason Cal/EPA has undertaken a Green Chemistry Initiative. AB 558 (Feuer) would improve the state’s accounting of hazardous chemicals used in California and require companies to identify ways to reduce their amount of hazardous chemicals they use as well as generate as waste.
