Great news! Thanks to input from thousands of CLCV members and many other conservation-minded voters, President Obama took action this week to protect natural wonders in the California Desert as national monuments, to be treasured and enjoyed for generations to come!

The California desert is one of the most unique and pristine places in the country. The Mojave Trails, Sand to Snow, and the Castle Mountains feature unparalleled scenery and critical habitat for a healthy desert ecosystem. These natural areas make the region come alive with recreation and tourism. Californians and visitors the world over have long been drawn to its stark beauty, painted mountains, iconic Route 66, fascinating wildlife, Native American petroglyphs, inspirational vistas and storied history.
President Obama's action will help protect the desert we love from being squeezed by rapid development in two of the fastest growing regions in the nation.
California's Senator Dianne Feinstein deserves a great deal of credit for her tireless work to protect these special places over the years. In the face of continued inaction by Congress, she urged President Obama to use his authority under the Antiquities Act to designate Mojave Trails, Sand to Snow, and the Castle Mountains as National Monuments. This week, the President made it happen.
Let President Obama know you appreciate his act to protect about 1.8 million acres of precious California desert: http://www.ecovote.org/desert >>
